    Your Dynamic Faculty

    Gordon Hunt is with the law firm of Hunt Ortmann Palffy Nieves Lubka Darling & Mah, Inc. He is recognized in California and throughout the country as one of the leading construction law attorneys. Mr. Hunt has lectured for the University of California Continuing Education of the Bar on “Mechanic's Liens", “Claims on Public Works", “Construction Disputes", “Construction Law", “Construction Litigation", and other topics. He has also lectured for many bar associations including Los Angeles County, Orange County, San Bernardino County and Beverly Hills Bar Association. Mr. Hunt has appeared in four cases before the California Supreme Court and five cases before the District Court of Appeal. Mr. Hunt has written hundreds of articles and seminar materials covering every major construction law issue, including, but not limited to, Mechanic's Liens, Stop Notices, bond claims, construction claims, licensing, bidding disputes, breach of contract by owner, breach of contract by contractor, strict liability, recovery for defective plans and specifications, public work disputes, design-build, calculating construction damages, critical path method scheduling, the Eichleay formula, claims avoidance and management for owners, representing the owner on construction projects, cardinal change, and many other construction law topics. He is the chief consultant for the Continuing Education of the Bar, University of California, “Mechanic's Liens and Related Construction Remedies", Third Edition 1998. He is the author of the CEB Action Guide Handling Mechanic's Liens and Related Remedies, fall 2000 and all predecessors. He is the co-author of California Construction Law, 16th Edition, published by Aspen Law & Business. He is the sole author of Construction Surety & Bonding Handbook, published by Aspen Law & Business. Mr. Hunt is an arbitrator and mediator for the American Arbitration Association and an arbitrator for the State of California and the State Construction Arbitration Panel. He served as Chairman of the Real Property Section and Vice-Chairman of the Continuing Education of the Bar Committee of the Los Angeles County Bar Association. He served as Chairman of the Legal Advisory Committee of the Associated General Contractors of California. Mr. Hunt received his Bachelor Degree from U.C.L.A. and his J. D. degree from the University of Southern California. He is listed in Who's Who in America and Who's Who in American Law. Mr. Hunt was named as “Outstanding Real Estate Lawyer" by the Real Property Section of the Los Angeles County Bar in 2000 and as a “Super Lawyer" by Los Angeles Magazine from 2004 to 2010 and as “Best Lawyers In America" from 2006 to 2010 (in category Top 100 in Construction Law).

    Laurence P. Lubka has represented owners, contractors, subcontractors and suppliers in a wide range of disputes, representing clients as a trial attorney, in mediation, arbitration and court, with regard to commercial contracts, state and local contracts and federal government contracts. He has also drafted and negotiated a wide variety of construction related contracts, including design build contracts. As an attorney and as an arbitrator, Mr. Lubka has handled disputes from billion dollar power plant disputes to home defect claims. He was recently quoted in the Los Angeles Times with regard to a high profile case involving a sculpture created for Disney Hall. In his capacity as a trial attorney in both jury and bench trials and arbitrations, Mr. Lubka has developed substantial expertise in mediations, having participated in numerous mediations. In addition to addressing issues of contract claims, defect issues and claims for extra work and delay, Mr. Lubka has substantial experience in California public contract law, prevailing wage law, license law and bid protests and represents several public entities. In addition to his work as an attorney, Mr. Lubka has given hundreds of seminars and classes to lawyers, contractors, public entities and consultants. He has written numerous handbooks on these issues, ranging from mechanic's liens and stop notices, to prevailing wage, license law, change order claims, California public contract law, types of contracts (GMP, design build, etc.) and controlling contract risk. He has given seminars for Federal Publications, the Construction Management Association of America, PESI, the Western Council of Construction Consumes and Lorman Seminars. He is currently working on a book for West Publications regarding California Public Contract Law and an annotated California Public Contract Code. He has been named as a Superlawyer for 2008, 2009 and 2010 in the construction law category. Mr. Lubka graduated from George Washington University, National Law Center, 1980, Cum Laude and Columbia University, Bachelor of Arts, 1976. Mr. Lubka is a member of the state bars of California and Ohio, as well as the American Bar Association and is a member of various Federal courts, including the Court of Federal Claims. He has been a member of the Panel of Arbitrators, Construction and Government Contract Disputes, of the American Arbitration Association, and is a Fellow in the National Contract Management Association.
