Omel Andres Nieves specializes in complex litigation with an emphasis in construction, real estate and business litigation.
Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Mr. Nieves earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from California State University at Fresno in 1983. While at the University of Fresno, Mr. Nieves participated in varsity basketball and was a member of the 1982/83 NIT-Championship Team. As co-captain of the varsity basketball team, he received the Scholastic Award for Outstanding Student/Athlete. In conjunction with his educational endeavors, Mr. Nieves played professional basketball in Puerto Rico from 1980 through 1985.
He is admitted to practice in the State of California as well as all the federal courts within California and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth District. Before joining Hunt Ortmann in 1990, Mr. Nieves spent several years with the Los Angeles law firm of Lawler, Felix and Hall which later merged with the national firm of Arter & Hadden. He then joined the Beverly Hills law firm of Rubin, Egan & Fedder where he had a business and real estate litigation practice.
Mr. Nieves is a frequent lecturer and teaches construction courses dealing in the private and public sector.

Mr. Nieves is a member of the State Bar of California, the American Bar Association, the Los Angeles Bar Association and the National Hispanic Bar Association.
Civic Activities
Throughout his career, Mr. Nieves has been a civic leader and philanthropist actively supporting local and national charities, including the Boys and Girls Club of America, American Youth Soccer Organization ("AYSO"), East Pasadena American Little League, and Y.E.S. Basketball. Mr. Nieves served as a Commissioner of the Pasadena Parks & Recreation Commission from 1994 through 1998, and as the Chairperson of the Commission from 1998 through 2001. In 1999 he became an Executive Board member for the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce where he serves as legal advisor. In 1999 Mr. Nieves was appointed to serve as a Board of Trustee for St. Marks School, and in 2001 Mr. Nieves was appointed to serve on the Board of Directors for the California State University at Fresno Alumni Association.
